Personal & Professional Journey
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare and therapy?
Lacy: I always knew I wanted to work with kids. I had several friends who were therapists and they encouraged me to give it a try—and I’ve loved it ever since!
Q: Was there a defining moment that shaped your approach to patient care?
Lacy: Absolutely. I once worked with a patient who reached milestones their parents had been told would never happen. Seeing that progress firsthand reminded me why I do what I do—it’s all about possibility and perseverance.
Q: What do you find most rewarding about your work?
Lacy: Helping people reach their goals and feel confident in themselves is incredibly rewarding. I love getting to know each patient as an individual—what makes them tick—and tailoring care to what matters most to them.
Day-to-Day Work & Impact
Q: What does a typical day look like for you?
Lacy: Every day is different, which keeps things exciting! I love seeing a mix of patients and watching them progress in their own ways.
Q: Can you share a memorable patient experience?
Lacy: I treated a patient who had no social experiences outside of time spent with her parents and sibling. She was non-verbal at the time and mostly agitated. After a year, she was able to communicate some using a device, complete multi-step activities, and would allow us to comfort her and engage with us without adverse reactions.
Q: How do you personalize treatment for each patient?
Lacy: I always start by finding out what’s important to them. With kids, that means adjusting my tone, my expectations, and even my play style to match their comfort level. Every patient is unique—it’s our job to adapt to them, not the other way around.
Teamwork & Clinic Culture
Q: What do you love about the culture at the clinic?
Lacy: The teamwork! Everyone is so supportive and willing to help one another. That collaboration makes such a difference for both staff and patients.
Q: How do you collaborate with other therapists and staff?
Lacy: We communicate constantly by sharing insights, strategies and encouragement. It ensures our patients get the most holistic, well-rounded care possible.
Q: How do you stay current in your field?
Lacy: I’m always learning from others—taking tips from all disciplines and applying them to my treatments. It keeps my approach fresh and effective.
Insights
Q: How do you define success in your role?
Lacy: If my patients enjoy coming to see me and feel like their time is well spent, that’s success. Seeing them make those baby steps toward big goals keeps me motivated every day.
Q: What keeps you balanced outside of work?
Lacy: Spending time with loved ones, doing things that recharge me, and remembering to take it one day at a time.
Q: What might surprise people about you?
Lacy: I’m scared of basically everything! (Yes, even some of the toys we use in pediatrics have startled me a time or two!)
